SLANDERING THE STATE (?) IN SOUTH KOREA

AsiaRights founding member and prominent Korean human rights activist Park Wonsoon faces a court case for allegedly “defaming” South Korea’s National Intelligence Service by accusing them of carrying out investigations which violate the National Intelligence Service Act.

Human rights groups in South Korea have expressed alarm that the use of defamation laws to protect state agencies from criticism could seriously limit free political debate.
