Public lecture at Universitas Gadjah Mada by Professor Peter Warr

Peter Warr lecture at UGM5

On Friday, 15 December 2017, Emeritus Professor Peter Warr gave a public lecture at the Faculty of Economics and Management, Universitas Gadjah Mada (FEB UGM). The lecture was entitled Anti-globalisation, poverty and inequality in Indonesia, based on Peter’s research with Arief Anshory Yusuf (CEDS Universitas Padjadjaran).

In his talk, Peter Warr raised the issue of increasing inequality in Indonesia, one of the severest in the World. Globalisation has been accused as the cause of inequality – is it the case? The on-going research being conducted by Peter and collaborators at Universitas Padjadjaran is striving to identify the cause of inequality, including globlisation.

Dr. Eko Suwardi, Dean of FEB UGM, opened the lecture. Almost 100 people attended the lecture – both undergraduate and the graduate students, as well as member of the local chapter of the Indonesian economists association (Ikatan Sarjana Ekonomi Indonesia or ISEI). There were many questions posed during the Q&A, including some very sharp ones from undergraduate student.
