A further relevant use of the word thwēi is in the term thwēi hto, which means "to incite" (lit. "to inject blood"). This term has been used in reference to the British "inciting" the Karen and other minority ethnic groups to fight against the majority Burmans during the late colonial period, and especially around WWII. For example, a 1990 Myanmar Ministry of Information publication, entitled The History of Revolt within the Country (vol. 1, p.28), explains that "when the British colonialists returned a second time, a black event occurred that incited (thwēi hto) a riot for the Kayin revolt to emerge."
