Directed by Peng Tao 彭韜

The Cremator is a daring and compelling drama about Cao, a middle-aged bachelor crematorium worker. Outwardly he is an ordinary employee, but he secretly runs a side-line business as a ‘ghost matchmaker’, conducting a clandestine trade in unidentified women’s corpses to posthumously marry them with deceased unmarried men. When understanding that he is dying, Cao decides to make arrangements to marry posthumously with the corpse of a mysterious young woman, only to be confronted with the moral dilemmas posed by the appearance of the dead woman’s sister.

This screening will be followed by a short informal discussion.

This film is part of Asia and the Pacific Screens Season Six: Borderlands, presented by the Australian Centre on China in the World.
