Silent Witnesses: An exhibition of sculptures by Martin Rowney

The artworks in this exhibition reflect upon the dichotomy between the profound nature of the research undertaken at the John Curtin School, and the mundane nature of everyday objects that were silent witnesses to these considerable events. Rowney has reimagined these objects within his artworks to tell the stories of their observations.

Blood, Phlegm, Bile, and Qi: Bodily Fluids in Chinese and European Medicine

Various speakers
Chinese medicine is usually described as ‘energetic medicine’ that cures mysteriously, through manipulating flows of energy, balancing yin and yang and regulating abstract macrocosmic correspondence. This then is often juxtaposed with material concerns of European medicine. This lecture compare the Chinese and European medicine traditions on equal grounds, as fluid-based, humoral traditions of healing.
