The relationship between Indonesia and East Timor changed dramatically in 1999 when a majority of the East Timor population voted to reject the status of Special Autonomy within Indonesia. But since mid-2003 both countries have officially engaged in trade to boost the exchange of goods and services. This engagement has so far been satisfactory with a total trade value of USD217 million in 2015, a significant increase from USD30.69 million in 2006.
