The Colours of Anthropology: A Visual Anthropology Exhibition

The Colours of Anthropology photography exhibition is an exploration of sensory ethnography with a particular focus on colour. It showcases the photographs of ANU anthropologists taken during their research “in the field” in various places around the world. The exhibition will run for four weeks, from 14 September to October 12, 2018.

‘We’ll Save Ourselves’: Reflexivity and Modernity in Taiwan’s Contemporary Student Movements

This thesis seeks to understand the Sunflower Student Movement and its significance in Taiwan, by tracking the major student-led movements that preceded it. Beginning with the Wild Strawberry Movement of 2008, this thesis asks how and why young activists became prominent in Taiwan’s civil society, and what this reveals about the broader socio-political structure.

Youth for a New Taiwan: Music, Media and New Politics

The research project examines the rise of youth activism in Taiwan from the 2014 sunflower student movement period and into the first term of Tsai Ing-wen’s presidency. This mid-term review presents the findings of extensive fieldwork amongst newly emerged minor political parties contesting the 2016 elections.
