New GIS Officer position

CartoGIS welcomes Sandy Potter to our newly ongoing GIS Officer position. Sandy has worked over the last 15 months to develop and deliver a range of GIS training modules. Sandy also offers GIS consultations, guest lectures and labs, and research support throughout the College.

International Transactions Journal

Dr Sango Mahanty's paper entitled "A tale of two networks: Market formation on the Cambodia–Vietnam frontier" has been published in the prestigious international Transactions journal (Institute of British Geographers) and includes two maps by CartoGIS Services.

Asia-Pacific Map Collection

The Asia Pacific Map Collection is now recognised as an official ANU collection. Out-of-copyright maps are available for download from ANU's Open Research Repository and more will be added every year.

CartoGIS Services is a team of four full-time cartographic and geographic information system (GIS) specialists providing services to staff and HDR students in the College of Asia and the Pacific (CAP) for research, teaching and outreach purposes. Services include: production of static and interactive maps and diagrams, GIS consultation, workshops, presentations, training, GIS data management and Asia-Pacific Map Collection digitisation, management and curation.

All services are free for professional and academic staff, visitors, emeriti and HDR students in the College of Asia and the Pacific (CAP). Customers from other areas of the Australian National University (ANU) and external to the ANU will be charged for visualisation production and software training as per a schedule (PDF, 103KB).

We are now offering a number of training opportunities throughout the year: short courses in mapping and analysis in ArcGIS Pro, half-day training sessions on Modelbuilder, digitising and editing in ArcGIS, and landcover mapping with Landsat. Learning skills to edit downloaded maps from MapsOnline or create your own will be taught in the Introduction to Adobe Illustrator CC course.
