Political update

June 20th, 2006 by Andrew Walker · Add a Comment

The National Thai Studies Centre at the ANU has released a useful summary update of recent political events in Thailand.

There are a number of different figures on the results of the recent election but it is clear that Thai Rak Thai (Thaksin’s party) won over 50% of the vote while the “no vote” advocated by the opposition parties attracted something over 30%. In Australia we would call that a landslide!

Please note: New Mandala encourages vigorous debate. However, for the moment we will only be publishing high-quality comments that make original contributions to discussion. There will, of course, still be space for pithy, humorous, eccentric and cheeky input. Short and sweet will usually trump long and involved. Repetitive ranting, unimaginative point-scoring and idle abuse will not be entertained. Comments which carry a real name are also more likely to be approved. Thank you for your ongoing interest and contributions.
