A few months ago, my review of Phil Thornton’s Restless Souls - a book about Mae Sot and the Thai-Burma border - was published by The Oxonian Review of Books. The review is long and interpretative, and, fortunately, has much more detail than permitted in most “academic” review formats.
For interested New Mandala readers, my review is available as a PDF by clicking on this link: Restless Souls – Reviewed by Nicholas Farrelly
Other perspectives on this fascinating book come from Burma-watchers David Scott Mathieson (The Irrawaddy) and Bertil Lintner (Asia Times). As always, they are both well worth a read.

Please note: New Mandala encourages vigorous debate. However, for the moment we will only be publishing high-quality comments that make original contributions to discussion. There will, of course, still be space for pithy, humorous, eccentric and cheeky input. Short and sweet will usually trump long and involved. Repetitive ranting, unimaginative point-scoring and idle abuse will not be entertained. Comments which carry a real name are also more likely to be approved. Thank you for your ongoing interest and contributions.
