The southern Thai property boom is largely fuelled by cashed up foreign investors, confident that the Thai beach scene will remain attractive for many years to come.  In coastal areas, everybody seems to be selling property, and selling the dream of tropical paradise.  Foreign land speculation is rampant.

As a Southern Thai, I am still untouched by Russian and live a very normal life. But I indeed worry about my compatriots who are ready to sell anything to visitors from afar, including their very soul.

Please note: New Mandala encourages vigorous debate. However, for the moment we will only be publishing high-quality comments that make original contributions to discussion. There will, of course, still be space for pithy, humorous, eccentric and cheeky input. Short and sweet will usually trump long and involved. Repetitive ranting, unimaginative point-scoring and idle abuse will not be entertained. Comments which carry a real name are also more likely to be approved. Thank you for your ongoing interest and contributions.
