In a fascinating development for the regional television industry, a new initiative, called “Mekong Community TV”, has been launched. The idea is that Thai, Vietnamese, Lao and Cambodian channels from the “Mekong community” will join forces to provide coverage of “their neighbourhood”. The partner channels are TV 5 from Cambodia, LNTV from Laos, HTV from Vietnam and ITV from Thailand.
For more information, and some instructive Thai-language quote, see some recent reporting. I will try to watch the next edition of Mekong Community TV, and will post some updated reflections when I can. If anybody has seen its reports, please feel free to add a comment and give us some idea of what you think.

Please note: New Mandala encourages vigorous debate. However, for the moment we will only be publishing high-quality comments that make original contributions to discussion. There will, of course, still be space for pithy, humorous, eccentric and cheeky input. Short and sweet will usually trump long and involved. Repetitive ranting, unimaginative point-scoring and idle abuse will not be entertained. Comments which carry a real name are also more likely to be approved. Thank you for your ongoing interest and contributions.
