These feet are made for gawking

Big Buddha Feet, Burma, 2006

This image of the Buddha is the result of a recent Japanese donation to a temple just north of central Myitkyina, Kachin State, Burma.  The Buddha that owns these feet is a spectacular and unexpected sight.  If you are ever in the neighbourhood, it is well worth a look.

Japanese-donated Buddha feet!?!? That has to go over well with the local Kachin population. U Nu would be glad though. Finally somebody got a Buddha image up there.

Please note: New Mandala encourages vigorous debate. However, for the moment we will only be publishing high-quality comments that make original contributions to discussion. There will, of course, still be space for pithy, humorous, eccentric and cheeky input. Short and sweet will usually trump long and involved. Repetitive ranting, unimaginative point-scoring and idle abuse will not be entertained. Comments which carry a real name are also more likely to be approved. Thank you for your ongoing interest and contributions.
