Tonight, University of Wisconsin-Madison professor Thongchai Winichakul will be lecturing in London on the topic, “Thailand’s Coup: A Step Forward in a Dangerous Direction“. The talk will be held at the Royal Asiatic Society, 14 Stephenson Way, London NW1 2HD , from 5-7pm.
For the benefit of readers who can’t make it along, New Mandala will carry coverage of this lecture and Thongchai’s argument about the place of the recent coup in Thailand’s political development. A report of proceedings will be posted to New Mandala soon afterwards.

Please note: New Mandala encourages vigorous debate. However, for the moment we will only be publishing high-quality comments that make original contributions to discussion. There will, of course, still be space for pithy, humorous, eccentric and cheeky input. Short and sweet will usually trump long and involved. Repetitive ranting, unimaginative point-scoring and idle abuse will not be entertained. Comments which carry a real name are also more likely to be approved. Thank you for your ongoing interest and contributions.
