The wife of former Thai Prime Minister Pridi Banomyong, Thanpuying Poonsuk Banomyong, passed away on Saturday.  She was 95 years old.  Prachatai has some details on her passing.

Gross National Happiness down in Thailand

A Thai survey “based on responses from 4,363 people in 22 provinces” gives an overview of happiness in Thailand.  The index compiled by the ABAC Poll Research Centre fell from 5.74 in November 2006 to 5.11 in May 2007.  The ABAC survey uses a composite ten-point scale where 10 indicates extreme happiness and one is reserved for extreme unhappiness.

Harmony conference at Mahidol

Mahidol University International College, Thailand, and the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, are jointly organising a conference with the theme, “Defining Harmony in Southeast Asia:  Competing discourses, challenges and interpretations”.  It will be held in Bangkok from 29 November – 1 December 2007.  Abstracts are due on 31 June 2007.
