In the wake of the terrible One-Two-Go plane crash in Phuket, readers may be interested in the history of similiar events in Thailand. The Aviation Safety Network has 81 incidents in its database on Thailand, many of them minor. The last major passenger airline crash was in 1998 – the Thai Airways crash near Surat Thani which claimed 101 lives. (For information on accidents involving Thai airlines, not necessarily in Thailand, see here.)

I would like to cite another site of interest; if you want to read analysis, by some knowledgable people, of what could have caused the accident, I would recommend lurking in the forums of Thai Flight Simulator. (See these two threads: Thread One and Thread Two.)

I tried to go to the Thai Flight Simulator website but couldn’t understand their discussion since most of it are in thai characters.

re: Darling: Well, check out this English website instead: Professional Pilots Rumor Network. There are some posts from an anonymous One-Two-Go pilot that are very, very frightening.

Please note: New Mandala encourages vigorous debate. However, for the moment we will only be publishing high-quality comments that make original contributions to discussion. There will, of course, still be space for pithy, humorous, eccentric and cheeky input. Short and sweet will usually trump long and involved. Repetitive ranting, unimaginative point-scoring and idle abuse will not be entertained. Comments which carry a real name are also more likely to be approved. Thank you for your ongoing interest and contributions.
