The Australian government has beefed up financial restrictions on those they classify as “Burmese regime figures and their supporters”.
The full list of 418 individuals is available here. It includes 13 members of Than Shwe’s family. It also covers the families of every member of the State Peace and Development Council, Regional Commanders, Deputy Regional Commanders, Ministers, Deputy Ministers, “Tourism Related Appointments”, Senior Military Officers (Brigadier Generals and above), “Military Officers running prisons and police”, Senior Union Solidarity and Development Association post-holders, “persons who benefit from government economic policies”, those involved with military owned enterprises, and “former senior regime figures” (including Khin Nyunt).
Information on the financial sanctions imposed by the United Kingdom and the United States is available from their official websites.

But I wonder what assets have actually been seized? Indeed, are there any at all in Australia? If there are none, and the authoritities know there are none, what is the point of it all, except political posturing?

There will, of course, still be space for pithy, humorous, eccentric and cheeky input. Short and sweet will usually trump long and involved. Repetitive ranting, unimaginative point-scoring and idle abuse will not be entertained. Comments which carry a real name are also more likely to be approved.
