New Mandala readers who have been following my current series of posts about the recent Myitkyina Manau Festival will want to check out today’s report from the Kachin News Group:
Brig-Gen San Tun, the Burmese junta’s vice commander in Kachin State attended today’s inauguration of KIO/A’s 47th anniversary of Revolution Day which falls on February 5. It is being held in Laiza controlled area, KIO/A sources said.
According to today’s ceremonial programme, Maj-Gen Ohn Myint, Commander of Kachin State was invited to give a short speech but he could not attend.
Before this morning’s special Revolution Day programme the cultural Manau dance performance titled “Sinpraw Majoi Hkridip Naugup Manau” was held. The ceremony was opened by local Church leaders in keeping with Christian traditions at 7 a.m. local time, local participants told KNG.

Please note: New Mandala encourages vigorous debate. However, for the moment we will only be publishing high-quality comments that make original contributions to discussion. There will, of course, still be space for pithy, humorous, eccentric and cheeky input. Short and sweet will usually trump long and involved. Repetitive ranting, unimaginative point-scoring and idle abuse will not be entertained. Comments which carry a real name are also more likely to be approved. Thank you for your ongoing interest and contributions.
