Serhat Ünaldi, a student from the Southeast Asian Studies program at Humboldt University in Berlin, has put together a neat website that includes a collection of papers about Thailand and Cambodia.
Papers include:
- The Crown, Caricatures and Critics – Problems and Power of the Media Under a Constitutional Monarchy
- Reconstructing Angkor – Images of the Past and Their Impact on Thai-Cambodian Relations (published in the series “Südostasien Working Papers”)
- Thailand Backstage – On the Performance of Thainess
- Just Another Gay Movie? – A Brief Comparison of Mainstream and Alternative Thai Queer Film
More English and German language papers are available here. The author is also currently writing a thesis “which will be a comparison of kingship in Thailand and Spain and its influence on democratisation”. If the paper “Crown, Caricatures and Critics” is anything to go by then I expect this thesis will be well worth reading.

Please note: New Mandala encourages vigorous debate. However, for the moment we will only be publishing high-quality comments that make original contributions to discussion. There will, of course, still be space for pithy, humorous, eccentric and cheeky input. Short and sweet will usually trump long and involved. Repetitive ranting, unimaginative point-scoring and idle abuse will not be entertained. Comments which carry a real name are also more likely to be approved. Thank you for your ongoing interest and contributions.
