New book from Alan Rabinowitz

March 3rd, 2008 by Nicholas Farrelly · 1 Comment

Alan Rabinowitz is famous for his work in far northern Burma where he helped establish the Hukawng Valley Tiger Reserve.  Part of his exploits in that part of the world was chronicled in Beyond the Last Village: A Journey of Discovery in Asia’s Forbidden Wilderness.  Rabinowitz has now put together a new book, Life in the Valley of Death: The Fight to Save Tigers in a Land of Guns, Gold, and Greed.

It has been very helpfully reviewed in the most recent edition of The Irrawaddy.  Readers with even a passing interest in Kachin State, nature conservation or Burmese politics would be well advised to check out the review.

Please note: New Mandala encourages vigorous debate. However, for the moment we will only be publishing high-quality comments that make original contributions to discussion. There will, of course, still be space for pithy, humorous, eccentric and cheeky input. Short and sweet will usually trump long and involved. Repetitive ranting, unimaginative point-scoring and idle abuse will not be entertained. Comments which carry a real name are also more likely to be approved. Thank you for your ongoing interest and contributions.
