Life for journalists in Burma, not easy at the best of times, has reportedly got even harder since the cyclone. The Irrawaddy has some helpful details on the trying situation for the local media. But even more interesting is this summary of the experiences of various BBC journalists. They comment on disparate efforts to get access to the country, travel down to cyclone-hit areas, and get their stories out to the world. It is well worth a quick look.

Please note: New Mandala encourages vigorous debate. However, for the moment we will only be publishing high-quality comments that make original contributions to discussion. There will, of course, still be space for pithy, humorous, eccentric and cheeky input. Short and sweet will usually trump long and involved. Repetitive ranting, unimaginative point-scoring and idle abuse will not be entertained. Comments which carry a real name are also more likely to be approved. Thank you for your ongoing interest and contributions.
