The Nation reports that “Gavintra Photijak, Thailand’s beauty queen, won the national costume award in the Miss Universe 2008 pageant in Vietnam Monday morning.” After the humiliation of Preah Vihear this is happy news indeed!

Over at the excellent deathpower, Erik W. Davis introduces the Khmer proverb that supplies the title of his forthcoming doctoral dissertation. I’m sure he would appreciate any conversation about this proverb and, in particular, any useful comparisions from other Southeast Asian Buddhist “traditions”.
