A very different protest

August 28th, 2008 by Nicholas Farrelly · 1 Comment

New Mandala readers willing to avert their gaze from Bangkok will find that this protest – centred, I might add, on events in a very different part of mainland Southeast Asia — is an important one.  Please be warned that the link contains some horrifying material.

The interesting thing is how this protest isn’t dependent on the KIO, but rather on NGOs and organizations like the KNG. Are we looking at a Kachin civil society?

Please note: New Mandala encourages vigorous debate. However, for the moment we will only be publishing high-quality comments that make original contributions to discussion. There will, of course, still be space for pithy, humorous, eccentric and cheeky input. Short and sweet will usually trump long and involved. Repetitive ranting, unimaginative point-scoring and idle abuse will not be entertained. Comments which carry a real name are also more likely to be approved. Thank you for your ongoing interest and contributions.
