Former Lao President Nouhak Phoumsavanh reported to have died

September 10th, 2008 by Andrew Walker · 2 Comments

I have received a reliable email report that the former Lao President Nouhak Phoumsavanh has died.

Nouhak Phoumsavanh died yesterday evening after being in a critical condition at Mahosot Hospital for the last month or so. He had been in a coma for many weeks. There will probably be a week’s official mourning, as was the case when Kaysone Phomvihane passed away.

Please note: New Mandala encourages vigorous debate. However, for the moment we will only be publishing high-quality comments that make original contributions to discussion. There will, of course, still be space for pithy, humorous, eccentric and cheeky input. Short and sweet will usually trump long and involved. Repetitive ranting, unimaginative point-scoring and idle abuse will not be entertained. Comments which carry a real name are also more likely to be approved. Thank you for your ongoing interest and contributions.
