Suwicha

Don’t forget to take a minute to show your support for Suwicha Thakor. Details are here. We have already had some interest from Australian media. The more votes we get for “Suwicha” the more we can generate media interest in his fate.

The odd of naming Thong Dee’s son Suwicha would be much greater than a million to one.

The West is responsible for the current lese majeste situation in Thailand because the West had undermine the direction of the 1932 coup d’etat group. As a result, instead of having a constitutional monarchy, Siam has a God King. It is hard to undo 60 years of propaganda without influential intervention from the West.

Everyone should have the right to respect or not respect another person. It is cruel to force citizens to respect Phumipon.

Susie Wong: “The West is responsible for the current lese majeste situation in Thailand”

Oh please. “The West” is not responsible. Get real. Stop blaming “The West” and “Foreigners” and start taking responsibility for the state of your country is the first step to change.

Blaming outsiders is an all to convenient way to distract attention from the real problems and deny that you have the responsibility and ability to affect change internally.

I’ve asked that the elephant be named Suwicha. I hope that it helps.

“Activists call to Khlong Prem, to mark one year of Da Torpedo’s imprisonment.

A group of activists called Social Move has sent emails inviting the public to visit Daranee Charnchoengsilapakul at Khlong Prem Prison, at 9.30-11.30 am on July 30, to give her moral support.” http://www.prachatai.com/english/node/1320

    Needs no comment.

Daranee aka Da Torpedo was arrested and detained on July 22, 2008, on lèse majesté charges for what she said in a public speech during a political rally at Sanam Luang in mid 2008. The court has denied her bail and ordered the hearings be held in secret, claiming the case concerns national security.

The hearings of witnesses for the prosecution were held on June 23-25, and witnesses for the defence will testify on July 28 and Aug 5.

The activists ask those who join the activity to bring flowers and banners in support of Daranee.

May I propose to name the new panda cub in Thailand instead?

Please note: New Mandala encourages vigorous debate. However, for the moment we will only be publishing high-quality comments that make original contributions to discussion. There will, of course, still be space for pithy, humorous, eccentric and cheeky input. Short and sweet will usually trump long and involved. Repetitive ranting, unimaginative point-scoring and idle abuse will not be entertained. Comments which carry a real name are also more likely to be approved. Thank you for your ongoing interest and contributions.
