The National Library of Australia is pleased to announce the recent acquisition of two new significant collections of research papers.
“หมู่บ้าน … ไม่สงบ : ภาพความรุนแรงภาคใต้ในมิติ ชาติ, นานาชาติ และอนาคต” ชัยวัฒน์ สถาอานันท์, บรรณาธิการ และหัวหน้าโครงการวิจัย (Village without peace: Images of the southern conflict in three aspects — nation, outsiders, future / editor and head of research project, Chaiwat Satha-Anand). This is a collection of three papers addressing these themes, published by the Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn Anthropology Centre, September 2010.
“ความรุนแรงซ่อน/หาสังคมไทย“ ชัยวัฒน์ สถาอนันท์, บรรณาธิการ (Seeking hidden violence in Thai society / editor, Chaiwat Satha-Anand). This one is a collection of six research papers published in November 2010 discussing the reality behind Thailand’s “peaceful” society, with case studies from recent history. The papers represent the second year of a project funded by the Thailand Research Fund (สำนักงานกองทุนสนับสนุนการวิจัย).
Another volume that came out in 2008, “แผ่นดินจินตนาการ?: รัฐและการแก้ไขปัญหาความรุนแรงในภาคใต้” (Imagined land: Solving southern violence and the state in Thailand), as previously featured on Book Zone, was the first produced by this project.
Note details of table of contents for both publications are included in the National Library of Australia’s online catalogue records.

As a Thai and a Buddhist, I am sorry to say that many of my compatriots do not really practice Buddhism. Instead, they choose to behave like crooks, and hence the unrest in the Thai society.

We are living in a crooked society that’s why everyone is a crook. Why we are at this point is not because of an individual work of art here but of political structure as a whole that is falling apart.

Luecha Na Malai –
While I respect Buddhism for its liberties, it’s only religion. And religion has proven to do little for peace, understanding and compassion between people.
I am afraid it’s a bit more complex…

to Luecha Na Malai, how dare you say that you are “sorry to say that many of my compatriots do not really practice Buddhism. Instead, they choose to behave like crooks”! What about the muslims, the animists, the christians, the atheists, are they crooks for not practicing Buddhism. I’m sorry, but the expectation that people must behave in a particular way or be labled crooks is at the very heart of the problem. Cutural uniformity is not the answer, rather tolerant diversity is. People should behave as citizens, with or without religion.
