Yingluck: face of the nation

The period from June to August 2011 was undeniably historic for Thai politics, especially Thailand electing her first female prime minister. We have put together here a collection of covers from various Thai magazines of the period. These covers, with their images and captions, communicate the boldly diverse attitudes of the political factions vying for power. As we can see, these images suggest, variously, ambition, support, empathy, frivolity, treachery, deception, heroism….

MN readers will be glad to know that the NLA Thai Collection has an extensive and well-established collection of Thai magazines, journals and newspapers, extending to over 100 current titles. For example, Siam Rath Weekly (สยามรัฐสัปดาหวิจารณ์) going back to mid 1960s; we also have comple holding of Fa dieokan  (วารสาร ฟ้าเดียวกัน).
