It's a relationship that touches on virtually every aspect of our national life, including trade, culture, politics, people, ideas and education.
A new book on the Australia-China relationship, titled A new Australia-China agenda, was launched at Parliament House on Tuesday 28 October 2014.
Edited by Geremie Barme and Ryan Manuel, from the ANU Australian Centre on China in the World, the book includes essays by Australian and Chinese scholars, journalists, business people and academics.
In this video Mr Manuel, a political scientist working on policy implementation in China, raises insights by Chinese scholars in the book, and the importance of bilingualism.
