Asian and Pacific languages

If you’re a lover of languages, then you’ll love ANU. In the 2016 QS World University Rankings, ANU was ranked number one in Australia and 26 in the world for modern languages. Whether you choose to study online or on campus, classes are interactive and you’ll be taught by leading language and culture specialists whilst having access to our state-of-the-art language learning facilities. 
Languages available include Burmese, Cantonese, Hindi, Indonesian, Japanese, Korean, Mandarin, Mongolian, Sanskrit, Tetum, Thai, Tibetan, Taiwanese and Vietnamese. Selected languages are available for study online - visit our languages page to find out more. You may also be able to complete part of your program through immersion opportunities overseas.
You can choose from a range of programs to study the language you are interested in:

Cross-institutional study: For students studying at another Australian university who would like to take courses at ANU which are credited towards their non-ANU degree. Please contact your current institution to find out if this is possible for you.

At ANU when you study a language of the region you will graduate with true language fluency, preparing you for an increasingly international workforce as Australia continues to grow more closely engaged with Asia and the Pacific.
