During 1980, the publication changed its title from 'Micronesian Independent' to 'The Marshall Islands Journal', either with the publication of issue 12 or 13. Issue 12 was not available for copying. The publication had been the Micronesian Independent from 1974 - mid-1980, and previously titled the Micronitor (1970-73). Prior to that it was the Marshall Islands Journal (1965-69).

Micronitor, Vol. 4, issue numbers 45-48. Issues cover the period from 3rd-28th December 1973, and volumes 46-48 are titled "Micronesian Independent'. The Micronitor was previously the Marshall Islands Journal and changed it's name in 1970.
