Dexter (1865-1946) arrived in Papua in 1910. Except for a break in Malaya in 1918-24, he worked as a plantation manager, assistant resident magistrate, captain of coastal vessels and trader at Milne Bay until returning permanently to England in 1937.

The reminiscences describe Dexter's experiences in Papua as a plantation manager, assistant resident magistrate, ship's captain and trader. The work was intended for publication under the title Reminiscences of a Gin-soaked Trader. See Finding aids for details.

Nakanai patrol reports

Accounts of nine patrols to the Nakanai area of New Britain between 7 February 1929 and 8 August 1930. The purpose of the patrols was to check the censuses, inspect the roads and villages, and collect the anthropological data required for a handbook and gazeteer of the territory.

Miller made several trips to Papua and New Guinea as a prospector and mining engineer in the 1920s and 1930s. Later he was manager of Baranata Plantation, Papua.
