Biographical statement

Ross Tapsell is coordinator of the newly created Graduate Certificate in Asian Studies Program, which aims to enable school teachers to expand their knowledge and engagement with Asia. Ross is a former recipient of the Australian Government Endeavour Postdoctorate Award, where he conducted research on press freedom in Indonesia. Ross has been a Visiting Fellow at The University of Indonesia, Airlangga University (Surabaya) and the Centre for Strategic and International Studies (Jakarta). He has also worked with The Jakarta Post and the Lombok Post. Ross' research has seen him keenly involved in Australia-Indonesia relations. In 2008 he was selected to be part of the Australia-Indonesia Youth Exchange Program, and in 2009 he was invited to be part of Australian Government initiative: 'Australia and Indonesia: Partners in a New Era'. Ross is currently researching on the nature of press freedom in Southeast Asia.

Indonesia and Southeast Asia; press freedom; journalism; history; Australia-Indonesia relations.
