Milestones
- New students should complete the first milestone, The First Annual Plan, within 3-6 months of commencement.
-
Students who started within the last year should complete the Thesis Proposal Review within 9-12 months of commencement, unless required to undertake coursework as a progress requirement*. The student and their supervisor should complete this form at the time of the review or seminar. The cover sheets will be distributed separately by the local administrator.
*Students undertaking coursework in their first year should complete an Annual Report within 12 months of commencement and the Thesis Proposal during their second year.
-
All other students are required to complete by September 30th each year, an Annual Report on progress made in the previous year and expected progress in the coming year. The Annual Report form includes the Annual Plan for the student and supervisor to complete. The cover sheets will be distributed separately by the local administrator.
Students on Approved Leave (Suspension) of Program are not expected to complete a report until their return from leave - as they are not expected to be working on their thesis while their program is suspended.
- Mid-Term Review is completed only as required by the supervisory panel or local department.
Ethics Approval
All research conducted with humans requires approval from the ANU Human Research Ethics Committee. Speak to your supervisor as approval must be gained prior to fieldwork trips. For information about the application for ethics clearance and guidance on what constitutes high or low risk research, please see the ANU Human Ethics website.
Research Integrity Training
Completion of RIT is mandatory for students who commenced after 1 January 2009 and should normally be completed within the first year of enrolment
Students in CAP can undertake this training by completing an on-line module offered by the Research Student Development Centre (RSDC). To complete it students should go to Research Integrity Training on the RSDC website and follow the instructions
Once all the modules are finished, the responses will be sent to the student's supervisor for moderating and, where appropriate, further discussion. When the supervisor advises the Education Office that this process has been completed, the student will be recorded as having met the research integrity training requirement.
More information on academic progress can be found in the HDR guide.
