Language students

Students interested in studying a language at the ANU College of Asia & the Pacific have a number of options open to them in either an Undergraduate (ie, Bachelor degree or Diploma) or a Graduate (ie, Master degree) program. While students enrolling 'large enrolment' languages (Chinese and Japanese) must meet normal entry requirements for their chosen program(see Undergraduate or Graduate coursework), there are also alternative study paths for students wishing to study 'small enrolment' languages such as Javanese, Sanskrit, Tetum, Thai or Vietnamese.

Small enrolment languages

The College has several small enrolment language programs, often offering tuition in languages that does not exist elsewhere in Australia. These include:

Students wishing to study these languages often may not want to enrol in a whole degree and/or may not meet the usual admission requirements for a degree. Therefore, to maximise enrolments in these languages, several options have been developed to allow potential students in one or both of these categories to be admitted to and enrol in small language programs.

In order to determine which enrolment option is best for you, you can either browse through the 'Small enrolment language programs' menu on the right of this page, or follow the questions and links below:

  1. Are you already studying at an Australian university?
  2. Do you want to receive a formal grade/result?
  3. Do you want to be enrolled in a degree program?
  4. Have you completed a Bachelor Degree?
  5. Are you interested in the Asia-Pacific region?

* Please note that we encourage all potential students who may be thinking of auditing to consider applying for a Diploma of Asia-Pacific Studies. As such, all students who wish to audit will need to receive permission from the College to do so.

** Domestic Students who wish to enrol as non-award students, but find the cost prohibitive may wish to consider enrolling in a Diploma of Asia-Pacific Studies.
