This degree will prepare you for a successful career in government (including foreign affairs and trade, defence, the Australian Federal Police or secret intelligence agencies), international organisations (like the United Nations or Amnesty International), or international businesses who face global security issues (such as Boeing and BHP Billiton).
Studying this degree will develop your analytical skills and knowledge of the security challenges facing our world with particular reference to the Asia Pacific region. You’ll develop Asian language skills, have the flexibility to choose electives in other disciplines from across ANU and participate in a range of hands-on extra-curricular activities including “war games”.
Taught by internationally renowned experts at the ANU Strategic and Defence Studies Centre (SDSC) - Australia’s foremost centre for strategic and security studies – you’ll graduate with a qualification which will open doors to a truly global career.
Combine this degree with almost any other degree at ANU – including law, international relations, engineering, commerce or economics – and your specialist knowledge of Asia and the Pacific will ensure you are recognised ahead of your peers when starting your career in Australia or overseas.
We also give you the opportunity to truly engage with the Asia Pacific region through dedicated in-country study programs. These programs are offered in a number of countries and range in length from a couple of weeks to six months. Both language and non-language opportunities available so you can tailor make your adventure of a lifetime.
And because we know adventures don’t come cheap, we will give you a minimum of $3,000 to help fund your study and travel overseas.
