Implementation of bilateral, regional and multilateral trade agreements has brought down tariffs significantly among RCEP countries. While tariffs have been reduced, comprehensive NTMs data collection by UNCTAD found that a large number of NTMs (24,757) are currently imposed by RCEP members. Unlike tariff, non-tariff measures are more complicated to understand and often being imposed by non-trade officers without considering trade-implication of such measures.
