On his elevation to bishop in March 1936, he became the first Vicar Apostolic of Wallis and Futuna. He retired in 1962. His 'Histoire Succincte de l'Ile Wallis' has been microfilmed as PMB Doc.212. He was also the author of Histoire de l'Ile Wallis, the second volume of which was published by the Societe des Oceanistes, Paris, in 1972.
