He was then transferred to Wallis Island where he remained until his death. His interests included botany, zoology, linguistics and local history. He developed an enthusiasm for genealogical research in France compiling the genealogies of French noble families. Genealogies of all Wallisian families (from A-F) compiled from oral tradition, baptismal and matrimonial registers dating from 1824, and from regular parish censuses.
