Itineraries of whaling and trading ships, in the Pacific Ocean

  • AU PMB MS 901
  • Colección

Please refer to the full entry in PMB 200<BR>In its New England Microfilming Project of 1970 and 1976, the Pacific Manuscripts Bureau obtained microfilm copies for its sponsoring libraries of more than 2,000 logbooks of American whaling and trading ships that visited the Pacific in the 19th century. Subsequently, a team of researchers was engaged to read the logbooks on film to establish where the ships went in the Pacific. The Pacific in this case was defined as Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific Islands. Information sheets were prepared for each ship giving the captain's name, etc., the location(s) of the logbook(s) copied, and details of the ship's itenerary. The sheets were used in the preparation of the two published indexes mentioned below. The sheets have been microfilmed as PMB 901 to 908.

See indexes American Whalers and Traders in the Pacific, Robert Langdon, ed., Canberra, 1978 and Where the Whalers Went, Robert Langdon, ed., Canberra, 1984. The information sheets appear in alphabetical order by ship. On this reel: Ships Abby P. Chase - Brunswick
