Scholarships giving a professional boost

Laura Comensoli

As a Director in the Australia Public Service, Laura Comensoli combines her drive for social justice with a passion for public policy. With scholarship support, Laura is undertaking postgraduate study that is already giving her new tools to solve complex problems.

“I had (and still have) a strong interest in social justice and was eager to find a pathway that would facilitate me making a positive contribution to society.”

Laura was awarded the Dr Claire Clark Scholarship. Receiving this scholarship waives the fees for her Master of Public Policy degree, allowing Laura to balance her public service role with university commitments.

“I feel very fortunate to receive this scholarship and am committed to making the very most of this opportunity.”

The Dr Claire Clark scholarship was created by ANU College of Asia and the Pacific class of 2000 alumnus Russell Clark. Russell dedicated the scholarship in honour of his mother, Dr Claire Clark, who was a Visiting Fellow at the ANU Public Policy Program. The scholarship continues the legacy of Dr Clark by supporting postgraduate students at the College.

Laura was encouraged by the opportunity to work and learn with students from neighbouring governments at the College.

“My current role involves working with counterpart government agencies in the Indo-Pacific region, and the opportunity to develop a stronger understanding of different country contexts is most valuable.”

Laura is driven by opportunities to make a positive contribution to society. Progressing through her Master of Public Policy, the knowledge and perspectives gained through her degree will allow her to make an even greater difference.

“I will learn new theories and frameworks that will give me a fresh perspective and a strong foundation for critical analysis, and I will make new networks to bring additional experience and knowledge to my work.”

Although still in the early stages of her degree, Laura can already see the benefits of her studies in her work.

“This Semester I have enjoyed studying economics for the first time, which has given me new tools and frameworks to apply in my work.”
