Are you seeking to engage with one of the world’s most diverse regions? The Graduate Certificate of Engaging the Pacific (6 months full-time, or part-time equivalent) offers you an opportunity to explore the island region’s diverse histories, cultures, arts, languages, politics, and migration and environmental issues. The program uses critical approaches, from across multiple disciplines and perspectives, which are inclusive and supportive of indigenous Pacific voices, knowledge and methods.

Students hoping to work in the region — or in any agency or organisation engaged with Pacific policy, teaching, collections and communities in the islands and diaspora — will receive a strong grounding in thinking with, and for, Oceania

What you’ll learn

The Graduate Certificate of Engaging the Pacific is a 24-unit program designed to suit the needs of professionals in a time of economic insecurity. Embedded in The Australian National University (ANU) College of Asia and the Pacific - home to one of the greatest collections of region-specific expertise and specialist academic programs in the English-speaking world - this degree will give you the opportunity to develop long-term networks with leading experts in regional affairs.

You can select courses to explore your interests in areas such as cultural and political transformations, history and international relations, and law and development, and have the option to take part in field schools and study tours.

This program also offers the opportunity to develop your language skills by studying one or more of the following languages:

Graduate Certificate fee discount

Domestic applicants offered a place to study in this Graduate Certificate commencing their studies in 2021 will be eligible for reduced course fees. This fee will apply to courses completed in this Graduate Certificate within 2021 and the first half of 2022 allowing you to study part-time. If you do not complete the degree by mid-2022 the remainder of your subjects will be billed on a full-fee basis from second semester (winter/spring) 2022. Pathway to a Master degree

You may wish to consider extending your Graduate Certificate to complete a Master degree. Your 24 units of study in the Graduate Certificate of Engaging the Pacific may count as credit towards the Master of Engaging Asia or the Master of Asian and Pacific Studies.
