Paris, an expert on shipbuilding, was on three of the most important 19th-century French voyages to the Pacific: with Dumont d'Urville on the Astrolabe (1826-29): with LaPlace on the Favorite (1829-32 and on the Artemise (1837-40)... . The work was originally issued in parts. Includes accounts of visit to Tahiti, Caroline and Mariana Islands and plates showing canoes and small vessels constructed there.
