Pasifika Australia is an access and equity outreach program at ANU supported by the University’s Student Equity office and the  ANU College of Asia and the Pacific . Pasifika Australia was initiated in 2008 by staff and students in the Pacific studies program.  Since then the program has grown significantly and consists of a wider community of ANU students and staff who are passionate about equity, and educational and identity issues facing Pasifika communities in Australia. The program uses Pasifika as an umbrella term that refers to all peoples from the Pacific region including Papua New Guinea in Melanesia, the Marshall Islands in Micronesia and Aotearoa/New Zealand in Polynesia.

Pasifika Australia supports the Pasifika Student Society, a student run social group aimed at supporting Pasifika students, Pacific international students and students interested in the Pacific at ANU.

The Navigating Pacific Studies Online course is available to both ANU and non-ANU students who are interested in the debates about theory and practice that shape how we conceptualise and think about the Pacific region and its peoples.

In collaboration with the National Rugby League an abridged version of the course was delivered to interested NRL staff and players as an introduction to Pacific Studies and to build and develop Pacific cultural competencies. Given the high numbers of NRL Pasifika players this course is an important element of the NRL's Pasefika Cultural Engagement Programs that educate and develop young men and the industry on the importance of understanding, engaging and developing Pacific cultures within rugby league.

Our range of programs follows a pipeline approach in addressing Pacific education and equity issues beginning from Year 9 through to Year 12.
