Note
General note: Diary style chronological description by date of invasion, damage, executions, starvations, administration etc. This chronological description of chief events is the literal translation of a diary kept by the Chinese Mechanic (MA) who was left behind to act as No.1 Chinese and also interpreter. He was evidently in close contact with the Japanese authorities and was forced to learn the Japanese language so that he could give orders to the Chinese. The day the Japanese were evacuated he attacked a Japanese doctor with an iron bar and nearlly killed him, considering this one way of retaliation for the hardships influenced on himself and his fellow Chinese. (Transcribed from last page of manuscript).
