Rev. Dr Ernest Edgar Vyvyan Collocott was a missionary and scholar born 7 June 1886 at Northcote, Melbourne, son of Victorian-born parents Alfred John Collocott, a Methodist minister who had recently returned from Fiji, and his wife Alice Jane, née Bickford. E.E.V. Collocate entered the Methodist ministry in 1911 and the same year went to Tonga as a missionary with his wife Edith Idabelle Bickford. In 1915, he became principal of Tupou College, Nuku'alofa. Collocott conducted his own research of the history and culture of Tonga and published as well as acting as an intermediary for other researchers. He is also known for his peace activism.
