Concept Club

In three ten-minute presentations, the concepts of ambiguity, luck and listening will be explored by Wenting He, Tuukka Kaikkonen and Isabelle Zhu-Maguire. Then we'll open the floor for discussion.

Concept Club was initiated by Benedict Moleta of our Department of International Relations here at the Bell School, as a forum for presentation and discussion of concepts in international affairs. Over the course of 2024, it has become an interdisciplinary gathering, meeting regularly and bringing together PhD students and academic staff from across schools and subject areas.

The aim is to expand our understanding of concepts in international affairs – tangible or intangible, fundamental or figments – and to examine how ideas shape realities at all scales of political, economic and social interaction. The focus is on experimentation and conversation - as Coral Bell once wrote "No attempt at definition has been intended, only a contribution to argument."
