ANU Indonesia Institute postgraduate student workshop Call for Papers
The ANU Indonesia Institute is hosting its annual interdisciplinary workshop for students conducting Indonesia-related research at the PhD and masters-by-research level. The workshop will take place on 16 and 17 September 2026, in-person on ANU campus.
The workshop is designed to:
- Develop students’ academic presentation skills
- Provide an opportunity for students to share their research in a supportive environment
- Learn about Indonesia-related research being conducted by other students
- Meet and network with students and scholars with similar interests
- Learn from ANU scholars about presenting, publishing and building a professional research career
This two-day event will comprise a one-day skills workshop and one day of presentations to ANU scholars and students. Students are invited to submit a 200-word abstract outlining the themes and content of their paper. The presentation may take the form of a general overview of their thesis or research plan, or it may cover a single thesis chapter, conference paper, or draft article. It is expected that student presentations will reflect work in progress rather than polished pieces of scholarship. Presenters will be organised into panels focusing on disciplinary areas or themes, depending on the range of papers accepted. Presentations will be 15 minutes, with time set aside for questions, answers and discussion at the conclusion of each panel.
The workshop will take place before the ANU Indonesia Update Conference on Islamic diversity in Indonesia (18–19 September 2026) and we encourage students to stay and attend this free conference too.
Applications details:
- Application is free of charge. Places are limited, competitive, and selection decisions are final.
- A limited number of travel grants are available to students based on Australian campuses outside the ACT. Please indicate on your application form if you wish to be considered for a travel grant.
- To apply please complete the application form by 15 June 2026. Late applications will not be accepted.
