The Graduate Certificate of Pacific Development (6 months full-time, or part-time equivalent) offers an opportunity for students to develop an understanding of the political, security and development issues facing Pacific Island nations. It is aimed at policymakers, program designers, researchers and analysts working on and in the Pacific region and provides a tailored pathway to research-led learning specifically on development in the region.

What you’ll learn

The Graduate Certificate of Pacific Development is a 24-unit program that provides you with a research-led exploration into state, society and governance in the Pacific region and how they intersect with current development challenges. 

Study load is compatible with professionals looking for a degree they can complete in parallel with full-time work. The program includes 6-unit and 3-unit courses. Up to 12 credits can be obtained through 3-unit masterclass courses, taught intensively over two days. These masterclasses offer deep dives into a specific subject area, informed by the latest research from the Department of Pacific Affairs and ANU.

Graduate Certificate fee discount

Domestic applicants offered a place to study in this Graduate Certificate commencing their studies in 2021 will be eligible for reduced course fees. This fee will apply to courses completed in this Graduate Certificate within 2021 and the first half of 2022 allowing you to study part-time. If you do not complete the degree by mid-2022 the remainder of your subjects will be billed on a full-fee basis from second semester (winter/spring) 2022. Pathway to a Master degree

You may wish to consider extending your Graduate Certificate to complete a Graduate Diploma or Master degree. Your 24 units of study in the Graduate Certificate of Pacific Development may count as credit towards the Graduate Diploma of International Affairs or the Master of Pacific Development.
