The Graduate Certificate of Strategic Studies (6 months full-time, or part-time equivalent) is designed for students seeking to start or advance their careers in national defence, international security, counter terrorism, strategic policy, foreign affairs, intelligence, and more.

This program, offered by The Australian National University’s (ANU) Coral Bell School of Asia Pacific Affairs, combines the theoretical and practical expertise of leading academics and shapers of policy to develop an understanding of the regional and global strategic and security challenges.

What you’ll learn

The Graduate Certificate of Strategic Studies is a 24-unit program that provides you with the structure to undertake strategic and policy analysis and the abilities to critically analyse, reflect on and synthesise complex information relating to the conduct of strategy and military operations.

Our students apply strategic concepts and knowledge to practical, contemporary problems using case studies from Australia, Asia and global environments.

Graduate Certificate fee discount

Domestic applicants offered a place to study in this Graduate Certificate commencing their studies in 2021 will be eligible for reduced course fees. This fee will apply to courses completed in this Graduate Certificate within 2021 and the first half of 2022 allowing you to study part-time. If you do not complete the degree by mid-2022 the remainder of your subjects will be billed on a full-fee basis from second semester (winter/spring) 2022. Pathway to a Master degree

You may wish to consider extending your Graduate Certificate to complete a Graduate Diploma or Master degree. Your 24 units of study in the Graduate Certificate of Strategic Studies may count as credit towards the Graduate Diploma of International Affairs or the Master of Strategic Studies.
